About

Liturina is an exciting young chamber group dedicated to exploring the potential of period instruments in diverse and challenging repertoire. Drawn together through their love of baroque chamber music, Iain Hall and Gabi Jones began playing together in 2017, and founded Liturina the following year, making their debut in St Albans Cathedral. The ensemble has been playing in its current setup since 2021.

They performed extensively during their time at the Royal College of Music, and were awarded the Richard III Prize for Historical Performance in 2018 and 2019. Highlights include a concert as part of the prestigious Kit and Constant Lambert Fellowship in the Royal College of Music’s Britten Theatre. This year Liturina were selected as finalists for the York Early Music International Young Artists Competition, and their programme was heralded as ‘particularly delicately played… an impressive performance’ - Andrew Benson-Wilson.

Liturina’s members have flourishing careers, collaborating with historical ensembles such as Florilegium, Academy of Ancient Music, the Hanover Band, La Serenissima, Orchestre Revolutionnaire et Romantique, OAE, and are in demand as chamber musicians internationally and at home. Beyond historical performance, each member has a wealth of knowledge and experience drawn from diverse areas of music making, allowing Liturina to challenge accepted ideas and gain a fresh perspective.

The ensemble was selected for the Brighton Early Music Festival Live! scheme for 22/23 and was invited to participate in ECOS Labs, at the Festival Internacional de Música Antigua de Sierra Espuña. London appearances include St. John’s Smith Square Lunchtime Concert Series and Baroquestock Festival where they premiered their new commission by jazz composer Jonny Mansfield. Liturina is proud to currently be on the Philip and Dorothy Green Artists scheme in association with Making Music and is the Ensemble-in-Residence at St. Clement Danes Church for 2024.
